Talon Story
Study
Abroad in America
-What’s
Going on in My Head?-
In 1991 on march 21st, I was born in Chicago but I don’t remember anything
because my family, and I went to back Japan when I was about a year old. Most
of the time I spent growing up was in Japan so technically my first language is
Japanese.
It was about 3 years ago, I graduated from Kokushikan University in Japan
I got a business degree. I was suppose to work somewhere but at the time I
really didn’t want to work and I wanted to do something new. I told my parents
about how I wanted to learn English in the United States and they gave me a
chance to come the United States to study abroad. I think it was good decision.
I have been here in Kansas City for about 2 years and 6 months. Now I am living
with 4 American friends and two dogs. So I learn English at all times everyday and
I get so many new experiences in American life which I really like.
Actually I have learned English in Japan when I was high school student. But
I think my high school English education was really bad. Because they taught us
how to write and read English. But they didn’t teach us how to use English in
our life. So of course I had some problems with English when I came here.
When
I was afraid to use English One of my friends, he is also international student
but his English is really good. I asked him “so…why is your English really
good? Have you studied a lot?” and he answered it and told me “No…Do you
translate when you talk to somebody, Sushi?” I said “Of course! Dude! I have to
translate in my head when I talk to someone.” He told me “You shouldn’t care
about it. Don’t translate in your head when you use English. I know it is
difficult to do that. But it will help you a lot”
I try
it every single time but it is really difficult to do that.
I
think my English is getting better little by little. I hope I will be able to
use English without translating.
